NIMRA INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES (COLLEGE)

Community Medicine Department

Community Medicine, also known as Preventive and Social Medicine, focuses on providing community-oriented medical education and promoting preventive, promotive, and curative services, particularly for underserved and vulnerable populations.

The department aims to equip medical students with comprehensive knowledge and skills in epidemiology, disease prevention, and public health strategies. Students learn to design models for reducing morbidity and mortality in specific populations by applying principles of health planning and healthcare economics. Practical training is offered at Urban Health Center (Nimra Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) Panja Center one town), Rural Health Center (Kanchincherla), Training Programs for MBBS Students at Primary Health Center (Ibrahimpatnam and Kondapalli), and For 1st MBBS Conducting of Family Adoption Programs at Villages (Jupudi, Kethanakonda, Mulapadu, Kondapalli) where students engage in implementing National Health Programs at the primary healthcare level. Activities include family health visits, environmental health surveys, and nutritional assessments, emphasizing care for antenatal and postnatal women and children under five. Through these initiatives, students gain Inhand experience in delivering primary healthcare services to communities.

Field visits to various public health service delivery points provide students with a holistic understanding of community health issues, determinants of health, social environments, and the organizational structure of Indian Health Delivery Systems.

The department also incorporates hands-on training sessions in research methodology and biostatistics during the 4th semester to enhance students' analytical skills. Additionally, it played an active role in the District COVID Monitoring Committee during the pandemic, showcasing its commitment to public health.

Community Medicine is integral to transforming MBBS students into Indian Medical Graduates who serve as primary care physicians, leaders, and effective team members within healthcare systems.
